Hey, yaoi angel Tatsuya here! Today we’ll be looking at After School in the Teacher’s Lounge, a shining example of the ubiquitous “so bad it’s good” cases you’ll find in the yaoi genre. The story, presented in a ~30 minute OVA, showcases high school teacher Mitsuro’s budding romance with his suave and charming colleague, Mr. Kazama. Featuring male teachers at an all-girls school in 1990s Japan, this scenario had huge potential in portraying a relationship restricted by social standards. Unfortunately, Teacher’s Lounge kicks those implications to the curb, instead giving viewers a generic and honestly creepy view into the courting methods similarly used by those wishing to transcend the Friend Zone.

With a premise like this, it’s gotta make up for it with good production, right?! Well, the art style adheres to conventional BL standards, consisting of elongated faces/limbs, sparkling eyes, and broooad-shouldered bodies. Accompanied by choppy animation, sequence issues, and just awkward image compositions, almost every single scene/action/interaction is executed to a terribly comedic effect. The script is also just plain bizarre at times – but seeing how Mr. Kazama expresses himself physically, perhaps it’s appropriate that the background music is very reminiscent of American porn. Unlike Beboy Kidnapp’n Idol, Teacher’s Lounge is a visual meal best described as expired microwave dinner. There are some nice backgrounds tho.

Overall: One of the worst BL OVAs I’ve ever watched, but consequently one of the most hilarious; recommended for anyone who wants a good laugh. If you’re expecting quality or a lick of character development, please, god, don’t watch this.
